At 102 mm underfoot, the skis are at another level of wide for an all-mountain ski. They’ve developed these skis with the same basic build as the Mantra M5, just in a wider shape and with a 3D Radius Sidecut. This new technology allows you to make any shape turn at any time depending on how you pressure the shovels. It’s a unique feel, and it certainly works.
The tip and tail taper is very similar to that of the narrower skis in the Titanal Frame line, so when you put them on edge, they turn fairly quickly. The Titanal Frame puts a second layer of metal over the edges and this creates a precise feel in the turn, and makes some amazing carves. Even at 102 underfoot, the skis carve like a much narrower ski. In the soft snow and crud, they will not even flinch, as the build takes you right through any and all snow conditions.
Carbon tips reduce swing weight, but that’s about the only weight-shaving tech that’s used in these skis. Tip and tail rocker make it easier to float while the camber underfoot adds to that carving prowess of the 2020 Volkl Mantra 102.
